All the ways they used dinosaurs in ''The Flintstones''
Dinos! What can't they do!
In The Flintstones, dinosaurs not only coexist with cavemen, they do everything for them! Dinosaurs are trucks, construction equipment, and even...meat? Put on your paleontology hats, we are going to explore all of the dinosaurs we see (and what jobs they had!) in season one.
Bus
What's cool about this apatosaurus bus is that the spikes on its tail served as stairs that you could walk down when you got to your stop.
Xylophone
As the main musician of the group, Barney naturally knew how to play this xylophone-o-saurus.
Racing
When Fred and Barney go to bet on the ponies (and nearly lose their homes in the process), it's dino races instead of horse races.
Dino-saw
One of Fred and Barney's coworkers used this dino-saw at the construction site.
Golf Cart
Big dinos get to be construction equipment and trucks and little dinos get to be golf carts! It just makes sense.
Dinosaur Crane
Another construction dinosaur from Fred and Barney's workplace, the Rockhead Quarry Construction Co.
Dinosaur Excavator
Fred uses a series of long-necked dinosaurs as excavators. Sometimes Fred would control the dinosaur's neck to lift rocks and debris, but sometimes he would use the tail to lift objects.
Stegosaurus Truck
Fun fact, the boney plates on the stegosaurus's back are called scutes!
Triceratops Drill
While the other construction-themed dinosaurs have semi-realistic abilities, the triceratops spins its head around impossibly fast to drill into the rock quarry.
Fire Truck
Featured in the show's intro, the fire department uses a red stegosaurus as a fire truck.
Pets!
Smaller dinosaurs, like Dino, usually took the place of the family dog. Meanwhile, cats were usually just smaller saber toothed tigers.
Eggs
Wilma borrowed this comically large dinosaur egg from Betty while she was baking a cake for Fred. We are unsure which species of dinosaur she got this egg from.
...Food
Most often, when they mention dinosaurs in The Flintstones, it is in a food capacity. In this image, the Flintstones and the Rubbles are enjoying stuffed pterodactyl, but throughout the show they eat brontosaurus burgers, brontosaurus steaks, brontosaurus ribs, and pterodactyl drumsticks. It seems that, canonically, brontosaurus takes the place of beef and pterodactyl takes the place of chicken/turkey. Later on in the series, cowasaurus and pigosaurus are introduced.
