The first pies date back to 2000BC when ancient Sumerians wrote down their chicken pie recipe on tablets. Who would have guessed that the combination of crust and a tasty filling would be a food that unites people from all nations and backgrounds - and this is equally the case in cartoons! Pies serve many purposes in cartoons: sometimes they are a goal a character is trying to reach, sometimes a character bakes a pie to tempt another character into doing their bidding, but most often pies are a tasty treat for the characters. Many of our classic cartoons even have pie-focused episodes - from Yogi Bear's "Pie-Pirates" to The Flintstones "The Gravelberry Pie King".
