Netflix just announced a new ''Ghostbusters'' animated series

Who you gonna call? Dan Aykroyd!

Sony Pictures

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival is the place where studios and streamers announce their next big animation projects, and at this year's festival, Netflix has announced that they will be premiering a new Ghostbusters animated series in 2027. But that's not all, one of the original Ghostbusters and co-creator of the franchise, Dan Aykroyd, is joining the project as an executive producer.

This announcement is preceded by an announcement from December 2024 that Netflix and Sony were also releasing an animated Ghostbusters movie directed by Kris Pearn (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, The Willoughbys).

Aykroyd is joining a supernatural force of a team of EPs consisting of producers, directors, writers, and animators. Other executive producers of the animated series include Ben Hibon (Star Trek: Prodigy), Elliott Kalan (Mystery Science Theater 3000 and The Daily Show), Jason Reitman (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Saturday Night, and Juno), Gil Kenan (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Monster House), and Amie Karp (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Ghostbusters: Afterlife).

There are currently no plot or casting details, but it's very exciting to see that so many of the EPs on this project are already members of the Ghostbusters family, especially Dan Aykroyd, the writer and star of the original movie.
