1

Leonardo

Wielding two katanas and sporting a blue bandana, Leonardo is the leader of the Turtles. He is a serious and responsible goody-two-shoes, but Leonardo also has a fun side and enjoys video games and reading. Leonardo is also considered the greatest fighter of the Turtles, having mastered swordfighting, ninjutsu, and shurikenjutsu. Master Splinter considers Leonardo to be his most gifted student.

Michelangelo

"Michelangelo is a party dude!" is what the theme song says about the goofy turtle in the orange bandana. Michelangelo loves pizza, surfing, skateboarding, and just having a good time. But don't let his upbeat, surfer dude vibes fool you; he has some serious fighting skills. His weapon of choice is the nunchaku, but he is also considered a master of manriki-gusari, ninjutsu, and shurikenjutsu. Also, Michelangelo really wants a pet and often tries to sneak pets into the Turtles' lair.

Donatello

In the purple bandana is the brains of the team, Donatello, who is a genius inventor and repairman. He is credited with inventing the Turtle Van, the Turtle Communicators, the Turtle Blimp, and many more vehicles and tools the Turtles use to fight crime. One of his areas of expertise is taking apart alien technology so the Turtles can use it for good. He is also the only turtle with a college degree - he took remote courses while having Irma pretend to be him in dean meetings. While he's a scientific-minded turtle, he is also trained in bōjutsu, ninjutsu, and shurikenjutsu.

Raphael

The theme song introduces the wearer of the red bandana, Raphael, as "cool but rude," and yes, he's a sarcastic wise guy and a smart aleck. But! He makes up for it with his knowledge of Okinawan kobudō, wielding two sai, and, like the other Turtles, he is well-trained in ninjutsu and shurikenjutsu.

Master Splinter

Hamato Yoshi was the leader of a ninja clan (the Foot) until he was usurped by his student, Shredder. He hid in the sewers of New York City when he encountered the Turtles and the glowing goo, which turned them all into mutants. Yoshi turned into an anthropomorphic rat and raised the now-mutated turtles into ninjutsu masters. The Turtles gave him the nickname "Splinter" because he was so good at breaking wooden boards.

April O'Neil

April O'Neil is a reporter for Channel 6 News and meets the Turtles after they saved her from being attacked. As the first human friend of the Turtles, April used her job to cover the heroism of the Turtles. In her adventures with the Turtles, April has often gone through mutation herself! She has temporarily been mutated into a cat, a fish, and a wasp, but she always ends up back in her human form.

Shredder

Previously known as Oroku Saki, Shredder overthrew Splinter from their ninja clan. He turned the clan into a criminal gang and joined forces with the alien warlord, Krang. Much like Darth Vader, Saki became Shredder when he put on the high-tech steel blade armour from Krang. He is the main enemy of the Turtles and often creates mutants, like Bebop and Rocksteady, to destroy them.

Krang

Krang is a weird little brain creature who uses an android as a body. He was once a warlord of Dimension X, but after a freak accident separated his brain from his body, he was exiled. Shredder and Krang have an unstable alliance, but a mutual goal of destroying the Turtles and conquering Earth.

April's Colleagues

April's colleagues at Channel 6 News often accompany her on adventures with the Turtles. Irma Langenstein is April's best friend and is often accidentally mutated when out with the Turtles; she gets hit with an enlarging ray, mutated into a rat, becomes super magnetic, and accidentally causes all four Turtles to fall in love with her. Vernon Fenwick is an ambitious coward of a cameraman and tends to blame the Turtles for the crimes they are solving. Burne Thompson is the editor and chief of Channel 6, and he is an antagonist of both the Turtles and April. As April's boss, he's seen as a short-tempered jerk who hates the Turtles.
