It's a treasure trove of early cartoon classics!
Our new late-night Sunday show is a true celebration of animation. Animation Antiques is featuring certified cartoon classics from MGM, Paramount, Fleischer Studios, and more! Here are some of the cartoon characters you can look forward to watching in our new block:
The Captain and the Kids: Based on the Rudolph Dirks comic strip following a family and their troublemaking father (the Captain), this 1938 MGM cartoon was directed by William Hanna, Bob Allen, and Friz Freleng.
Koko the Clown: One of Max Fleischer's first characters, Koko the Clown originally starred in the Out of the Inkwell series before appearing in Talkartoons with Betty Boop and other Fleischer characters.
Little Lulu: Originally created as a comic strip by renowned cartoonist Marge, Little Lulu follows Little Lulu and her friends, Annie and Tubby, on their escapades and adventures.
Swifty and Shorty: This Famous Studios cartoon follows Swifty, a tall, impatient fast-talker, and Shorty, a short, gullible guy, and their unlikely friendship/rivalry.
Cubby Bear: Created for Van Beuren Studios by Paul Terry, Cubby Bear was a cute character in the Aesop's Fables cartoon series and was developed to compete with Oswald the Rabbit, Mickey Mouse, and Bosko.
Tom and Jerry: Before the cat and mouse, there was Tom and Jerry, the animated human comedy duo! Interestingly enough, they were originally supposed to be a dog-and-cat duo named Waffles and Don, but ended up as humans designed in the "rubber hose" style.
Additionally, Animation Antiques will include characters who have been featured for a long time on MeTV Toons, like Popeye and Betty Boop. Tune in to Animation Antiques on MeTV Toons Sundays at 1:30am | 12:30c starting September 27.
